Organized 1949
It was during the Spring Ceremonial of 1949. The weather was hot-dry as a member of the bunion group in one of Alzafar's marching units remarked that he would prefer riding a horse. That is how the M.S.O.D. came into being.
The first meeting in a room over a refreshment and oyster bar on Broadway, the now defunct Alzafar Club, produced results. Ted Porr!, was named Chief Hostler, E. G. Langhammer, Secretary-Treasurer., Roy Akers, Chief Rabban, conceived and designed the Original uniform and authentic Arabic costumes including whiskers, turban, robe and baggy britches all in a riot of color.
The organizers and charter members, Roy Akers, Emery Dennis, Ted Porr*, Raleigh Patterson*, Jack Rogers*, Ray Trimmier*, Sam Raybourn, C. H. (Chuck) Larson, Leo Booth, Eddie Weatherford, and E. G. Langhammer. Most of whom being members or former members of riding organizations and owners of riding stock were well equipped to participate in county fairs and Rodeo parades. It was not until 1950 that the unit was presented to the Nobility, making their debut as official escorts of Illustrious Potentate Roy Akers.
The unit has grown in membership, built a riding ring and grandstand at Fezland Park as well as provide its own trailers, riding gear, uniforms and stock, to bring pleasure to the members and to present a public image to the public for the glory of Alzafar.
